Co-founder Kate Scherer worked with the Japonesque brand in 2007 in the role of art director/co-owner at Thread Group agency. There she was a leader on the team responsible for the packaging rebrand.
The challenge was to elevate the brand perception and increase the ability for consumers to self-select while staying within the existing peg display system.
The logo was updated to a sleek and modern silhouette to establish the professional positioning. Boxes were redesigned with open windows for easy identification. Color-coded categories and highly stylized product photos made the interior product easy to understand from any angle. The high contrast photography and high shine spot UV added extra pop and a more modern look, while hand-illustrated instructions increased the consumer’s ability to self-select and further customize the feel.
